Orlando VA Healthcare System takes care of its veterans

Luis Humberto Delgado, an American citizen and a war veteran living in Yucatan, Mexico; due to a medical emergency, was not able to be transferred by his wife to San Juan, Puerto Rico, on September 20, 2022, since a hurricane hit the island. She then took him to Veteran Affairs (VA) Hospital in Orlando, FL, USA.

Luis Delgado was received in the Veterans Emergency department. The excellent attention provided by the VA staff shows their appreciation for their war veterans.

At the VA Medical Center in emergencies, nurse Nicole Gianfalla, RN Jennifer González-Torres, MD and Mariadolores de León-Travesier, MD, stabilized veteran Delgado with dedication and care. After medical tests, they did not have space in their facilities to assign him a room to continue with the necessary care. So they arranged to send him to a nearby hospital at Orlando VA Medical Center and reassured the relatives that VA would cover the expenses.

Luis Humberto Delgado was transferrred to the UCF Lake Nona Medical Center Hospital. After medical & lab tests, he was diagnosed as having suffered ischemia, which caused confusion and paralysis in his body’s left side.

It is important to remark on the importance the US Government gives to its veterans who served their country in war.

We expect Veteran Luis Humberto Delgado Reyes to be stable after receiving the hospital recommendations and adequate prescribed therapies and treatment to maintain his quality of life. He will then be able to return to his home in Mérida, Yucatán, México, along with his wife.

The UCF Lake Nona Medical Center is a renowned teaching hospital, boasting first-world facilities and providing care for patient Luis Delgado as the VA hospital (part of the VA Healthcare System) is full.

Upon his return to Mexico, which is expected to be on September 27 or 28, Luis Humberto will be treated during his recovery and therapy in hospitals in the city of Mérida. Hospitals that have the required medical infrastructure and excellent doctors.
